A kindhearted street urchin, Aladdin (Mena Massoud) and a power-hungry Grand Vizier (Marwan Zenzari) vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true (IMDB).
I really did not know what to expect from Disney’s latest remake of Aladdin. The trailers were a bit cryptic because they really did not reveal a lot but I must say I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed watching this film. Smith is a spectacular choice to portray the Genie. I heard he initially turned down the role because he did not think he could top Robin Williams’s portrayal in the 1992 original. Luckily, for us Smith was finally convinced he could make it his own and that is exactly what he did. The result is a mixture of the old and new in regards to the music. Smith was able to add a slight wrap vibe to some of the old songs that brought them into this century.
Another added bonus to this remake is the involvement of director/screen writer Guy Ritchie. I am a fan of Ritchie’s past work and think he was able to make this film very entertaining.
I would definitely recommend this film to all the Disney fans out there.
