Movie News: Indie Meme Film Festival (IMFF) celebrates its 10th annual event of South Asian Cinema

Austin-based nonprofit Indie Meme hosts their milestone 10th annual Indie Meme Film Festival (IMFF), featuring some of the most incredible films, filmmakers, and actors working in South Asian cinema. Since its inception, IMFF has been a platform for socially relevant storytelling, showcasing diverse voices from South Asia. The festival has sparked meaningful conversations on topics ranging from human rights to cultural identity, creating a space where film serves as a bridge between communities.

Their 10th Annual Indie Meme Film Festival (IMFF) will take place April 9 – 13 at the Austin Film Society Cinema (located at 6259 Middle Fiskville Rd, Austin, TX 78752). The festival will kickstart with a “Members-Special Screening” of the recently restored, award-winning film Manthan (1976) by renowned Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal. The film stars Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil, Girish Karnad, Amrish Puri, and more.

The official red carpet for the 10th annual Indie Meme Film Festival is on Friday, April 11, 2025, starting at 8:30 p.m. It will showcase the festival filmmakers, actors, sponsors, and board members following the screening of the festival’s Opening Night Film, Kennedy, directed by critically acclaimed Indian filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who will also be in attendance on the red carpet. This special screening of Kennedy will debut a new, never-seen film cut.

In addition to Kashyap walking the red carpet, Indie Meme is honored to have director of “Pooja, Sir,” Deepak Rauniyar, and lead actress Asha Magarati, director of “And, Towards Happy Alleys,” Sreemoyee Singh, and lead cast and Iranian actress Aida Mohammadkhani on the red carpet. Other notable filmmakers walking the red carpet include B – Aida (“And Towards Happy Alleys”), Prithvi Raj Karreddula (“Don’t Smoke Bro”), Aniket Dhavale (“Nirmalya”), Rohit Battepati (“Lost.”), Tejal Desai (“Cowboys & Hindus”), Pruthvi Teja Anumandla (“Lost in Concrete Woods”), Sushanth Nallapareddy (“Fragments of Us”), and Ritvik Dhavale (“Hema”). Film critic Sucharita Tyagi will also be walking the red carpet.

The festival will conclude with a Closing Night Party on Sunday, April 13, at The Expansive-Highland Hideaway Biergarten, 305 E Huntland Dr, Austin, TX 78752, from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
