Review: THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL
By Mark Saldana Rating: 3.5 (Out of 4 Stars) I have yet to grow tired of Wes Anderson’s style of storytelling. With each new film he makes, I look forward to the colorful sets, the equally colorful characters and the overall exquisite way he presents his stories. His brand of humor almost always keeps me… Continue reading Review: THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL
SXSW 2014 Review: THE MEND
By Nikki May Rating: D The premise is perfectly fine — two brothers, seemingly different people, manage to figure out they’re more simliar than they thought. Just from that description alone, you would think it would be interesting, though not incredibly original. It has room to wiggle, room for some uniqueness in a rather known… Continue reading SXSW 2014 Review: THE MEND
Review: CHEF (2014 SXSW)
By Mark Saldana Rating: 3.5 (Out of 4 Stars) After directing summer popcorn fare in Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Cowboys and Aliens, Jon Favreau has decided to return to his roots in a smaller indie project. Chosen as the opening night film for SXSW 2014, Chef brought my SXSW Film to a delightful… Continue reading Review: CHEF (2014 SXSW)
SXSW: Days Two and Three
By Laurie Coker SXSW, typically a bit of a zoo, never ceases to amaze me. While I get used to the whole nature of things changing downtown mid week, with the music folks coming in, it appears that crazy, wildly dressed and plain outlandish is still the order of the day on Sixth street. Since… Continue reading SXSW: Days Two and Three

Review: MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN
By Mark Saldana Rating: 3.5 (Out of 4 Stars) I vaguely remember the Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons as a kid (happens with age), and honestly don’t even remember the Peabody’s Improbably History Segments that appeared on the Bullwinkle shows. As usual, I like to do a little research when I review a film based on… Continue reading Review: MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN
Review: 300 RISE OF AN EMPIRE
By Renee’ Collins Rating: 4 (Out of 5 Reels) The main reason I saw this film is because my teenage nephew was interested. I reminded myself that I had enjoyed the first film with Gerard Butler so I decided to give this one a look. Greek general Themistokles leads the charge against invading Persian forces… Continue reading Review: 300 RISE OF AN EMPIRE
Review: 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE
By Mark Saldana Rating: 3.5 (Out of 4 Stars) The decision to make this follow up to Zach Snyder’s first film much more than a “Picks up where they left off” sequel makes this movie a richer and fuller installment than I was expecting. As a fan of 300 and Zach Snyder’s incredible visual style… Continue reading Review: 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE
Review: SON OF GOD
By Mark Saldana Rating: 3 (Out of 4 Stars) For many years, the story of Jesus has been portrayed in various films of the theatrical and television varieties. Some of these have made waves because of graphic or controversial content (The Passion of the Christ, The Last Temptation of Christ). Others have kept the story… Continue reading Review: SON OF GOD
