Cine las Americas Fest News: Cine Las Americas International Film Festival Returns for 28th Year in Austin, TX

oin filmmakers and cinephiles at the 28th annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival (CLAIFF28), taking place May 13 – 17, 2026, at the Austin Film Society Cinema. The Opening Night film is the Austin premiere of American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez, directed by David Alvarado. Winner of the 2026 Sundance Audience Award for Best U.S. Documentary, the film honors the life and legacy of Luis Valdez, a foundational voice in the Chicano Movement whose work in theater and film continues to shape the landscape of American storytelling. The screening will be followed by a conversation with special guests (to be announced) and a reception.

From Zoot Suit to La Bamba, the film follows Valdez’s path from the farmworker movement to the stage and screen, illuminating how his storytelling gave voice to Chicano culture and political struggle.

Early Bird Badges are on sale April 3 at 9 am. The badge for CLAIFF28 includes the Opening Night film and five days of film and community. Badges provide access to all films, premier events, and more. A portion of the festival screenings is also free and available to the public.

Be ready, as the first 28 badges will be available for $28 in honor of the 28th edition of the festival. After those first 28 badges are sold, the badges are priced as:

Discounts are available for students, CLA members, and groups.

For conference attendees, an add-on is available: the Industry Access Pass, which offers enhanced opportunities to engage with filmmakers and participate in industry-focused conversations.
