Apple Original Films celebrated the world premiere of The Instigators last week before the film opened in select theaters on August 2, 2024. The global debut on Apple TV+ is set for August 9, 2024. Earlier this week, I went to my local Cinemark theater to check out their “Secret Movie Series,” where you pay to attend the secret movie (the title is unknown until the film begins). Imagine my surprise when the Apple Original Films logo came on screen with the title The Instigators. I had seen the trailer and was highly anticipating this film, and I was able to view it on the big screen. Fantastic!
If you need to become more familiar with The Instigators, the film is directed by Doug Liman and written by Chuck MacLean and Casey Affleck. The Instigators stars Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, Michael Stuhlbarg, Paul Walter Hauser, Ving Rhames, Alfred Molina, and Toby Jones, with Jack Harlow and Ron Perlman. Before the screening, I had yet to research the complete list of cast members, so seeing all the talent involved in this production was a pleasant surprise. They all brought their best to their respective characters and found the film entertaining.
From Apple TV: Rory (Matt Damon) and Cobby (Casey Affleck) are reluctant partners: a desperate father and an ex-con thrown together to pull off a robbery of the ill-gained earnings of a corrupt politician. But when the heist goes wrong, the two find themselves engulfed in a whirlwind of chaos, pursued not only by police but also by backward bureaucrats and vengeful crime bosses. Completely out of their depth, they convince Rory’s therapist, Dr. Donna Rivera (Hong Chau), to join their riotous getaway through the city, where they must put aside their differences and work together to evade capture — or worse.
An Apple Original Film from Artists Equity, Studio 8, and The Walsh Company, The Instigators is produced by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Kevin J. Walsh, and Alison Winter. Celia D. Costas, Dani Bernfeld, Kevin Halloran, Michael Joe, Cynthia Dahlgren, and Luciana Damon serve as executive producers.
