A widowed cleaning lady (Lesley Manville) in 1950s London falls madly in love with a couture Dior dress, and decides that she must have one of her own (IMDB).
Manville gives an outstanding performance as Ada the cleaning lady. From the first time you see her it is impossible not to care about what happens to her because she is a simple and ordinary person striving to get what she wants out of life. As in life there are those who treat people well and those that don’t. It is interesting to watch her struggle along the way trying to attain her goal. It is a simple solid story told in a simple way.
I would definitely catch this film on a streaming platform because it doesn’t necessarily warrant the full price of a movie ticket. I absolutely love this character driven period drama and is an absolute gem from beginning to end.
