PROJECT HAIL MARY

A science teacher, Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), wakes up alone on a spaceship. As his memory returns, he uncovers a mission to stop a mysterious substance killing Earth’s sun, and that an unexpected friendship may be the key (IMDb.com).

Gosling is simply perfection in his role as Grace, a science teacher who finds himself in an unbelievable, impossible situation: trying to save the world. At times, it is difficult to watch Grace traverse seemingly insurmountable obstacles, but he tackles them one step at a time, just like most people.

The special effects in this film are spectacular because they immerse us in the story. Not only are the space scenes great, but the alien being “Rocky” is also wonderful. We watch these two characters meet, learn to communicate, and eventually trust each other, only to find out that both species are in the same dire situation. Very quickly, they realize their only hope is to work together using their shared resources in order to possibly find a solution to their mutual problem.

This film is wonderfully acted, written, and visually impressive. If you are a sci-fi fan, this is a must-see because it appeals to all ages and is best seen on the big screen. I strongly suggest seeing it at an IMAX theater to experience it in all its glory.
