A SIMPLE FAVOR centers around Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a mommy blogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind her best friend Emily’s (Blake Lively) sudden disappearance from their small town (IMDB).
Honestly, watching the trailer made me want to see this film because it seemed to hopefully be something different. There have been plenty of films about people trying to beat the insurance system. Both main characters, Kendrick and Lively, are excellent actors and do a great job carrying this film. Especially Kendrick as Stephanie who, in the beginning of the film, is an unassuming shy single mom doing everything for her son. She is so selfless that some people take advantage of her kindness.
There are no special effects to speak of in this film. It is just an extremely well written, acted and made film that has some unexpected turns. I for one did not expect the outcome and enjoyed watching some of the characters transform themselves as a result of dealing with the intense and deadly drama happening around them. That being said, I still wouldn’t pay full price for this film. Catch a matinee and save some money.
