Being a fan of Luc Besson’s previous work I thought this film might be worth a look. An undercover Detroit cop navigates a dangerous neighborhood that’s surrounded by a containment wall with the help of an ex-con in order to bring down a crime lord and his plot to devastate the entire city (IMDB).
I am not sure where to start regarding this film because it has in my opinion only one redeeming quality and that is the fact that Besson wrote the screenplay. Honestly, parts of the visual action in this film are its only redeeming quality because it is route in every other regard for this genre of film. The acting is mediocre at best but honestly that is because of the terrible writing. Silly poor me would like to see some semblance of a new type of plotline. Why does Hollywood continue to redo the same story over and over again? Absolutely every cliché and usual inner city drug lords against the police plotline are used at nausium in this film. I am sure the younger crowd will enjoy this film but I don’t think anyone in the older crowd will besides there are plenty of previously versions of the same plotline out there that won’t cost too much to watch. If watching this film is a must I would wait until it comes to a red box in the neighborhood.
It is truly sad to know that this film is one of Paul Walker’s last contributions to Hollywood.
