Life changes in an instant for young Mia Hall (Cloe Grace Mortez) after a car accident puts her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, she must decide whether to wake up and live a life far different than she had imagined (IMDB).
Mortez has been acting since she was seven years old and many will remember her terrific performances in Kick-Ass and Hugo. It has been wonderful to watch her elevate of her acting skills. Not many sixteen year olds can carry their own as the main character in a drama but she definitely does. Mortez love interest Adam (Jamie Blackley) is an excellent choice because they definitely have chemistry. It is hard to believe that high-school students can fall in love as intensely as adults and suffer the troubles of that love on their lives.
If I Stay is intense because we watch Mia during an out-of-body experience trying to decide if she wants to live. Overall If I Stay is well acted and written but paying full price to see this film is not recommended. This is a film should be enjoyed while having dinner at home. Watching Mortez is well worth the effort. She is becoming a wonderful actress and most will look forward to future performances.
