In the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) participate in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons (IMDB).
Some might think this film is just another Bond type of film but they would be absolutely wrong because it is more than that. Don’t get me wrong there are some similarities but this film goes beyond the stodginess of a Bond film because of the fantastically written comedy and character development. The different character development story lines between the agents coalesce in a wonderful way which is what makes this film great. This is no doubt due to the excellent writing and directing abilities of Guy Ritchie who is one of the best filmmakers. Movies such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows are other films by Ritchie that are highly recommend.
The visual effects of this film harken back to the 1960s which blends perfectly with the tone of the film. There is also a lot of eye candy in this film, namely Cavill and Hammer. They not only add to the visual richness of this film but in fact are also good actors. Ritchie eye for detail, excellent story and screenplay writing is what makes this film a must see which is better when experienced on the big screen and well worth the price of admission.
