As his lover announces her pregnancy, David Wozniak/Starbuck (Patrick Huard), a fortysomething slacker receives other life-changing news: 142 people, all of them the result of artificial insemination, have filed a class action lawsuit against him, their biological father (IMDB).
This plotline is definitely unique which is refreshing because I don’t recall ever having seen anything like it before. Add to that the absolutely outstanding performance by Huard. Writers Ken Scott & Martin Petit masterfully develop this character because we see him struggle to deal with his situation not only with his new found children but his life in general.
I truly believe this film would have had a different feel if made from an American perspective. I mention this because I heard coming out of the screening that a version set in America is being made with Vince Vaughn in the title role. I think this is a travesty because Vaughn in my opinion is not near good enough to come even close to the performance by Huard. So, if you have the choice definitely see the one at the art cinema in French with English sub-titles because I guarantee it will be worth the effort.
There are no special effects in this film but I was struck by how well chosen and performed the music is done. As a whole this film works on all levels and shouldn’t be missed because it is a spectacularly entertaining.
