The peaceful town of Centerville finds itself battling a zombie horde as the dead start rising from their graves (IMDB).
I for one had never seen a Jim Jarmusch film but the trailer made me want to see this film. I am a fan of Bill Murray, Adam Driver and Tilda Swenson as well as others in this film. I was thinking it would be like Matthew Vaughn’s Shaun of the Dead because although they are films about zombies there is a comedic element to them. I for one do not like horror films and usually stay away from the like but this one seemed to be more on the quirky comedic side to I decide to take a chance.
I was told Jarmusch is an offbeat kind of director/writer. This film is definitely not like most films because it definitely doesn’t take itself too seriously when dealing with the zombie invasion. The characters in this film are just small-town people not equipped to deal with the situation. Don’t get me wrong, I like different but not when they move toward the stupid funny and that is where this film went. Not to mention two plotlines that were completely ignored or never explained. I walked out of this film wondering why it ended the way that it did.
I would recommend waiting to see this film on cable unless the extremely quirky films are what you like. Sure, there are many laughs but the ending will leave you wanting.
