I find all of the X-Men films exceedingly entertaining and there was no way I was going to miss this latest rendition. The X-Men send Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants (IMDB).
I vividly remember how well written and intricately woven the last film was and thankfully we get the same attention to detail here. That is why I truly enjoy these films because of the excellent character development plus the cool special effects. All of the characters are diverse but driven individuals who learn to work together to attain a common goal regardless of what side of the issues they find themselves on. This film I believe takes things to the next level because there is time travel involved. There is a melding in a way of the older actors Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as they portray the same roles but at different ages. The magnificent Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine who is sent back in time to change history. We are introduced to new characters but we also see many of the other characters that were in the previously which helps adds to the richness of this film.
To say the special effects in this film are stunning is an understatement because they are magnificent. A lot of the same effects are used but are pushed to the next level. We see Jennifer Lawrence as Raven/Mystique fighting, but this time there are several parts in slow motion to emphasize where she is looking ahead to the next blow which adds to the overall effect of the sequence. In my opinion it makes the scene much better than the same fighting sequences in the previous films.
I believe this film is better than the previous ones because I loved how the two casts are interwoven all while introducing new characters as well. The plot is simple but effectively laid out with fantastic special effects, great acting, writing and a little humor along the way which in my book is the best of all worlds in a film experience. And, if that were not enough, we get to see a little Wolverine skin as well; magnificent. I would definitely recommend seeing this film on the big screen and paying full price.
