Superman (David Corenswet) must reconcile his alien Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as reporter Clark Kent. As the embodiment of truth, justice, and the human way, he soon finds himself in a world that views these as old-fashioned (IMDB).
DC Comics decided to make yet another Superman film. I am skeptical of most DC films because they often take things too far and seem a bit ridiculous. I know they are simply trying to target the younger kids, but I wish they took things a bit more intelligently. Fortunately, they made a huge step in the right direction with this latest installment. Sure, there are elements of ridiculousness, but they are kept in check and verge more on the comedic side, rather than being childlike.
Corenswet is the perfect choice for this updated version of Superman, and he delivers a stellar performance. There is an unexpected cameo by Will Reeves, Christopher Reeves’ son, as, guess what, a news reporter. Reeves is currently an anchor on Good Morning America. Nathan Fillion also joins the cast and gives a much-needed comedic but somewhat nuanced performance as the Green Lantern. However, the most spectacular performance by far is by Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Hoult is a phenomenally good actor whom I have seen in numerous films over the years, and he delivers here in spades. He is the perfect choice for this role. Fantastic visual effects are expected in all films of this type.
Seeing some of the effects in the trailer allowed me a higher-than-normal hope for this film. This film is a great ride from beginning to end and would be great to see on the big screen. I recommend going to a matinee to have more popcorn money.
