A lonely scholar, Alithea (Tilda Swinton), on a trip to Istanbul, discovers a Djinn (Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom (IMDB).
This film has two absolutely superb actors in Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. I found this film to be exceptionally well written, acted and made. One cannot help but care about these characters from the start as they begun telling their own life stories.
There are some visual effects but the main crux of this film are the main characters and what they have gone through in life. While watching some films I might think, dang I wish this story would move along but I was engrossed in their plight immediately and was looking forward to the conclusion in a good way.
If you are looking for a more intellectual kind of film for adults then this is the one for you.
