It was the combination of veteran actors that made me want to see this film. Paddy, (Robert De Niro), Archie (Morgan Freeman) and Sam (Kevin Kline) throw an over the top bachelor party for Billy (Michael Douglas) in Las Vegas.
Of the quartet, I believe Kline is the best comedic actor having seen a lot of his previous work especially one called In and Out released in 1997 which I highly recommend. Kline’s character, Sam, is given a “free pass” from his wife to do whatever he wants because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas and he does find himself in some funny situations. Obviously, De Niro, Freeman and Douglas are superior actors as well. The plotline is simple enough; Billy gets engaged and invites his childhood friends to join him in Vegas for a bachelor party and the wedding. One of the more interesting characters in this film is Diana portrayed by Mary Steenburgen. She is wonderful in this film and stands out in a way from the quartet.
There are no special effects in this film but that doesn’t matter because we have the beauty of Vegas as a backdrop. This film is funny but I found it extremely predictable especially many of the jokes. Despite that fact I did find it an enjoyable film to watch but would definitely not pay full price to see it on the big screen. I would wait for it to come out in a red box.
