Local Movie Events: THE 17TH ANNUAL CINE LAS AMERICAS FILM FESTIVAL

For those who haven’t already heard, the annual Cine Las Americas International Film Festival kicked off on Tuesday, April 22. The annual event hosts a variety of films from Spanish & Portuguese speaking nations and cultures, as well as films produced by indigenous cultures. This year’s festival honors the work of Mexican-American filmmaker Efrain Gutierrez, a pioneer of Latino cinema and a political activist. The festival may have already begun, but it is not too late to participate and enjoy what CLAIFF has to offer. Tickets for individual films are usually available, not to mention that there are lots of free screenings being held at the Mexican American Cultural Center and at St. Edward’s University. For more information, including the film lineup and schedule, and how to get involved, go to http://www.cinelasamericas.org/ .
