SXSW Film 2015 Review: TWINSTERS

By Mark Saldana

Rating: 3.5 (Out of 4 Stars)

This lovely and adorable documentary tells the story of how two twins, separated at birth, reunited and became the close siblings they were meant to be.  American actress Samantha Futerman and French fashion student Anais Bordier were both originally born in Korea, but were eventually adopted separately and taken to live in different countries.  One day while watching videos on YouTube, Anais comes across a video starring Samantha and discovers that she has a doppelganger with a striking resemblance.  She comes to the realization that Samantha may be her long lost twin sister and contacts her right away.

Directed by Futerman and Ryan Miyamoto, Twinsters is a beautiful and touching story about twin adoptees discovering each other and rediscovering their roots.  The film takes its audience on an emotional, but joyous journey and also educates on the orphan/adoption experience.  Both Samantha and Anais come across as adorable and charming and watching these two vibrant young ladies discover each other should warm the hearts of even the strongest cynic.
