SXSW Film News: “Who We Are Now” Begins a Theatrical Release This Month

This past March, director/screenwriter Matthew Newton (“Three Blind Mice,” “From Nowhere”) had his film at the SXSW Film Festival, “Who We Are Now” in the Narrative Spotlight category (U.S. Premiere). In case you missed the film at the festival, the feature film has begun a theatrical release at the Cinema Village which started on May 25th.

Synopsis:

Recently released from prison, Beth (Julianne Nicholson) is working with her public defender (Jimmy Smits) to get her son back from her sister, who was awarded legal custody while Beth was incarcerated for ten years. Soon after, Beth forms an unlikely alliance with Jess (Emma Roberts), an idealistic young protégé of the public defense team, who decides to take on Beth’s cause whether she likes it or not.

The film stars also stars Zachary Quinto, Jess Weixler, Jason Biggs, as well as former Austin resident turned New Yorker, Myrna Cabello.

Myrna Cabello has a number of film and television credits. In 2018, she is cast in TV series “Rise,” “Jessica Jones,” and the film “Puzzle” that is currently set for release this summer. Last year, aside from her role in “Who We are Now,” she was also seen in the films “Closer to Bottom” that did have a screening in Austin last November, as well  “Trouble,” along with an episode on the “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” TV series. She has had multiple acting credits on other TV series including “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Mozart in the Jungle,” “Blindspot” and “Orange is the New Black.”
