‘Twisters,’ directed by Lee Isaac Chung and starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell, is a captivating movie with an exhilarating and original plot. It follows Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser who returns to the open plains to test a groundbreaking new tracking system just as unprecedented storm systems converge. Chung manages a fast-paced, heart-pounding adventure without going too overboard.

The film follows Kate Cooper (Edgar-Jones), who still deals with the trauma of a devastating tornado during her college years. Now safely studying storm patterns in New York City, Kate gets lured back to the open plains by her friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) to test a groundbreaking new tracking system. Once there, she crosses paths with Tyler Owens (Powell), a charming and reckless social-media superstar who thrives on posting his storm-chasing adventures. As storm season intensifies, Kate, Tyler, and their teams find themselves in the paths of multiple converging storm systems in central Oklahoma, battling terrifying and unprecedented phenomena.

The strong performances from the cast, particularly Edgar-Jones and Powell, are truly impressive. Edgar-Jones brings a nuanced depth to her role as Kate, portraying her vulnerability and strength with equal finesse. Powell’s charm and charisma add a layer of fun and excitement to the film, and he’s great on the eyes. The chemistry between the leads feels palpable, making their journey compelling and relatable.

I appreciated the originality of the story. In an era where many films rely on reboots and sequels, ‘Twisters’ stands out with its fresh and engaging plot. Chung and crew include “easter eggs” from previous storm-chasing movies, providing a sense of nostalgia without overshadowing the new narrative. We watched the 1996 film ‘Twister ‘the day before and will probably see ‘Twisters’ again to see if we can find more. The character development also stood out, with the writers and director ensuring each character had a meaningful arc, adding depth to the thrilling action sequences.

My 13-year-old daughter Leia found ‘Twisters’ incredibly exciting. The special effects impressed her, and even though they weren’t perfect, they made the storm scenes thrilling and believable. Powell’s character, Owens, became one of her favorites. His daring and adventurous spirit made the movie fun, and his interactions with his crew added a lot of humor and energy. We both found him utterly charming and charismatic.

Edgar-Jones’ character, Kate, inspired us, too. Leia liked how she faced her fears and used her knowledge to help others. The scenes where Kate had to make quick decisions in the face of danger kept us glued to the screen. The dynamic between Kate and Tyler balanced the film, mixing drama with light-hearted moments.

‘Twisters’ delivered a thrilling, well-crafted experience that we both enjoyed immensely. The strong performances by the cast, especially Edgar-Jones, and Powell, carried the movie beautifully. The story felt fresh and original, avoiding the pitfalls of being just another remake. The special effects, while not perfect, added to the overall excitement.

We both agreed that the movie presented a great blend of action, drama, and character development. The engaging plot and the nostalgic “Easter eggs” made it a memorable experience. Whether you’re a fan of storm-chasing films or just looking for an excellent movie to watch with family, Twisters is worth your time and the trip to see it on the big screen. We agree—it deserves five stars, and we highly recommend it!
