After taking a little break from movies, filmmaker David O. Russell is back. During the 90s and early aughts, Russell made a name for himself as an indie filmaker darling with movies such as Spanking the Monkey and Flirting with Disaster, and went on to make bigger movies such as Three Kings, I Heart Huckabees,… Continue reading AMSTERDAM

LYLE, LYLE CROCODILE
Based on the popular children’s books, Lyle, Lyle Crocodile and The House on 88th St., this movie musical hopes to just as successfully win the hearts of children and their parents. While the story is charming enough, I feel that the writing lacks the genuine emotional power needed to win both kids and grownups. As… Continue reading LYLE, LYLE CROCODILE
AMSTERDAM
In the 1930’s, three friends, Burt Berendsen (Christian Bale), Valerie Voze (Margot Robbie), and Harold Woodman (John David Washington), witness a murder, are framed for it, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history (IMDB). I simply cannot say enough good things about this film. It is one of the most well… Continue reading AMSTERDAM
FANTASTIC FEST 2022: PIGGY (CERDITA)
Being teased by others about some aspects of your personality and/or appearance is difficult enough for some people to handle and is totally horrifying when the bullying begins either from one person or a group of people. It stings even more when it involves a person that was once considered a friend but has decided… Continue reading FANTASTIC FEST 2022: PIGGY (CERDITA)
THE UNBURIED
Max (Demián Salomón, Terrified) lives in Buenos Aires and has a career that is not thriving, in fact has quite a bit of debt. He receives a call from Héctor (Hector Alba), who still resides in the hometown and family compound, saying their “father” has passed away and should return to settle the inheritance and… Continue reading THE UNBURIED
Fantastic Fest 2022: HELLRAISER
Fantastic Fest’s second secret screening was an actual feature film that serves as a reboot to the Hellraiser franchise. Now, this was one particular rumor that rang true, and going into this movie, I didn’t know exactly what to expect. While I pride myself as a film critic who has seen a lot of movies,… Continue reading Fantastic Fest 2022: HELLRAISER
Fantastic Fest 2022: WEREWOLF BY NIGHT
Every year, Fantastic Fest has two secret screenings. Every attendee aims for those tickets, because one doesn’t know exactly what to expect. Now, there are plenty of rumors going around during the days leading up to these screenings, some of which have been right on the money. However, this year, no one expected the presence… Continue reading Fantastic Fest 2022: WEREWOLF BY NIGHT
BANDIT
Everyone loves a good grifter story, and there is often a good deal of fun in “based on true story” movies. Rich and amusing characters make up the ensemble of characters in Bandit, a film by Allan Ungar starring Josh Duhamel, but it is the star who enchants audiences. Canadian director Ungar and his screenwriter… Continue reading BANDIT
DON’T WORRY, DARLING
A twisty, tense sci-fi mystery set in the 1950s -what could be better? Don’t Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde, offers up some amazing sets, costumes, characters, and a surprising storyline. Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, and Chris Pine star in this subtle thriller that speaks to many contemporary issues and entertains with its vivid imagery… Continue reading DON’T WORRY, DARLING
Fantastic Fest 2022: VESPER
Directors Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper’s feature film, Vesper, written by Samper, Buozyte and Brian Clark, is one of the best dystopian films that I have viewed lately. Aside from the authentic feel of the story with the homelessness and lack of food for many, Raffiella Chapman (The Theory of Everything), brings to life the… Continue reading Fantastic Fest 2022: VESPER
