Deception can be your deadliest enemy when Season 3 of “Fear the Walking Dead” – the companion series to the #1-rated cable series “The Walking Dead” – arrives on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD) and DVD March 13th from Lionsgate.
As society collapses around them, the families must come together to survive the apocalypse and combat the deadly threats on all sides. Hailed as “the best full season so far” (Forbes), “Fear the Walking Dead” Season 3 stars Kim Dickens (“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” “Gone Girl”), Cliff Curtis (“Risen,” “The Dark Horse”), Frank Dillane (“Sense8,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”), and Alycia Debnam-Carey (“Friend Request”).
When “Fear the Walking Dead” returns for Season 3, our families are brought together in the vibrant and violent ecotone of the U.S.-Mexico border. With international lines done away with following the world’s end, our characters must attempt to rebuild not only society, but their families as well.
Danay Garcia Interview by Liz Lopez
1] What did you to prepare for “Fear the Walking Dead” episodes as opposed to other dramatic work? Danay: Because it is an apocalypse, I had to work on the mindset—thinking about what does survival mean to me and humanity? Who is made to survive? Wake up to this, then what? If this happened, I had to put myself into it. This is a high stake dynamic – not an normal everyday job. People may see it as fascinating, but also need to think about what they would do. We have to get in that mind set of “oh humanity is ending” as we’ve protected ourselves to not deal with this.
2] Is there anything that you would say is a “take away” for you? Danay: The job has put so much into perspective. As an actress, I have grown – as to what I have, who is around me, how I choose how to live my life. I have learned that real things change, minute by minute. To some extent, people can be living their own apocalypse. I have learned to appreciate that part of humanity; their inner struggle, their inner apocalypse. Thinking about – you have to find food – or die- and it made me re-think this. It has made me grateful and grounded – and due to this, it went to the next level. This past Christmas, I went to a foundation for children in Mexico and gave them art supplies.
3] I heard you are in Austin? Yes! I have been living here since November (currently shooting Season 4) – and dealing with all the challenges since then. It was so cold, so cold! The weather has been so unpredictable and the clothing the actors wear is not meant for rain/snow. It is challenging, but it is a good story about people who are already facing challenges. As an actor, acting in the rain/cold – you are really living it – you can’t be bundled up. It is crazy, but fun. There is a level of concentration to be kept and I can deliver.
4] How is it working with the actors and crew? Danay: The cast in general is amazing (in all ways) – extremely professional. The take away for us is that we get to be in our jobs that we love. They are the best cast to overcome things with. I can’t ask for a better cast and crew.
5] Will you have any participation in SXSW? Due to the shooting schedule, I really don’t know.
6] What is your favorite thing about Austin so far? Danay: I love the food in Austin! Enjoy Terry Black’s; the city; the music; nothing any more specific. It is beautiful and the people are kind and nice. I needed another outlet, so I took a ballet class and I love it. It is fantastic and the people are cool; they’ve been good to me.
7] Anything else you would like to do in your career? Danay: I am happy to be Luciana – a very strong and fearless woman and working with this group of women. This is exploring different sides of women. It is a gift and I am thankful to put the clothing and boots on to tell this story.
8] Can you do a shout out to fans? Danay: I am so in awe and grateful to have them be compelled to watch this story; a gift we have. I hope it inspires them to keep going as we are. I am a huge fan of fans – they inspire me to do this. To some extent, I am here because of them.
