Movie Review: HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

As an ancient threat endangers both Vikings and dragons alike on the isle of Berk, the friendship between Hiccup (Mason Thames), an inventive Viking, and Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, becomes the key to both species forging a new future together (IMDB).

There are three animated films in this franchise, and recently, they decided to add a live-action version to the list. I am a big fan of this film franchise because the stories are solid, the acting is well done, and the visual effects are spectacular. I remember seeing the first film in 3D, and it was stunning, and all the same adjectives apply here.

Their choice of Thames as Hiccup was great because he delivers the same boyish physical and emotional traits as the animated character. Gerard Butler is the voice of Stoick in the first three films. I am sure he drew upon his experience portraying King Leonidas in 300, the 2006 epic Spartan war movie, to portray this tribal chief. Another surprise is Nick Frost as Gobber, the dragon-fighting coach.

Bottom line, if you enjoyed any of the first three films, then this film will not disappoint. This film is worth the price of a ticket to see on the big screen because the visual effects are truly outstanding. I look forward to seeing what they come up with next.
