Movie Review: Fire Fucking Fire Short has NY Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival

Among the short films I was able to view during the Tribeca Film Festival is Fire Fucking Fire. It is one I did not read about before viewing the screener, and I’m glad I did not. This short is a hoot of a film, meaning comedy, romance, women, LGBTQIA+, and I can’t leave out music.

Director/screenwriters Julia Eringer (Girls Like Magic) and Rachel Paulson (The Chest, Kleptos) have created a very engaging and funny film that had me laughing. I would be OK with watching a feature film based on the characters and learning more about their life stories. All the cast members portrayed their characters very well, and they did so very authentically. I can imagine a scenario like this in real life.

In this story, Meg is a member of a band named Fire Fire. After I viewed the short and looked up the actors and their previous work, I knew why “Meg” portrayed a rock star so well. She is great.
I also recognized Vico Ortiz when they enter toward the end of the short. I won’t say much about their performance, but they work those few minutes to be memorable.

Cast: Ally (Rachel Paulson, Aporia, 2023), Meg (Calico Cooper, “Bloomers” TV series), Jess (Capri Campeau), Sam (Vico Ortiz, “VIDA” on Starz, “Our Flag Means Death” TV series)

Synopsis: When Ally, a people-pleasing lesbian, beds her rockstar crush, she thinks her dreams of love and popularity are coming true, but, in the morning, the rockstar won’t leave…
