Drexler is the 2005 Oscar winner for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song – “Al Otro Lado Del Río” – in the film, The Motorcycle Diaries, directed by Walter Salles and starring Gael Garcia Bernal. Drexler’s song was also nominated in 2005 for the World Soundtrack Award, Best Original Song Written for Film. Drexler has been nominated five times at the Grammy Awards and received five Latin Grammy Awards. In November 2018, Drexler took home the record of the year and the song of the year for “Telefonía” and the best singer-songwriter album for Salvavidas de Hielo at the Latin Grammys 2018. He also received a Goya Award in 2010 with the song “Que El Soneto Nos Tome Por Sorpresa,” written for the Spanish film “Lope.”
In 2023, his album, “Tinta y Tiempo,” was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album category. The Paramount Theater website says, “Tinta y Tiempo sums up his lush take on the popular song, its ability to uplift and enlighten.” “Tinta y Tiempo” has ten songs, some in collaboration with Rubén Blades, C. Tangana, Noga Erez, and Martín Buscaglia.
Of note, Drexler will be taping a show for Austin City Limits, and it will be available for live streaming at 8 p.m. on July 31, 2023.
