A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD

All I wanted was this latest John McClane (Bruce Willis) installment to be as decent and entertaining as the last, unfortunately we don’t always get what we want.

McClane Sr. travels to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, Jack (Jai Courtney), only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working to prevent a nuclear-weapons heist, causing the father and son to team up against underworld forces. © IMDB

I fully expected things to blow up, people to get killed and yes, witness unbelievable acts of violence but this one is beyond anything I have ever seen.  They absolutely pulled out all and I mean all of the stops in trying to make this as over the top shoot everything in sight up movie.  Unfortunately, they forgot to take care of one small detail, the script because there is barely anything there.  I am quite sure that teenage boys will drool over this film but we grownups would like a little bit more attention paid to the plot and storyline.

Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed the previous installments of this franchise but still think the first one was the best because we cared about John and that is what made it all come together and work.  Here, the dialogue and so called character interaction is almost non-existent.  It seems all these film makers cared about are the action scenes and to see how much stuff they could obliterate.  Which is unfortunate because Willis is a good actor, I cite his recent work in a film called Looper as evidence.

Mindless obliteration with hardly any meaningful dialogue and no character development is all anyone will find here so I would skip this one altogether.
