Review: I AM YOUR FATHER

Rating: 5 (Out of 5 Reels)

The actor who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy never revealed his face.  In the one scene where he could have, another actor took his place.  After the films, David Prowse was never given his due: eventually, he was even banned from attending Star Wars conventions.  Thirty years later, a young director discovers what happened and why and finally pays Prowse the homage he deserves (FilmBuff).

It is doubtful there aren’t many people on this planet who don’t know who Darth Vader is but I would suspect most don’t know who physically portrayed the best villain of all time. This film is at times hard to watch because it reveals Prowse’ point of view about what happened during and after the filming of the original trilogy which isn’t a pretty picture because he was quickly ostracized.  Directors Toni Bestard and Marcos Cabota thoughtfully lay out an intricate and in depth tale about what happened so many years ago.  They candidly interview several producers and others involved in the original trilogy trying to glean why things played out in the manner they did.

It is extremely hard to believe that the man responsible for physically portraying Darth Vader in the original trilogy is not invited to any of the Star Wars conventions and why he continues to be excluded from the world that is Star Wars.  Any and all Star Wars film fans should see this film.
