Foul-mouthed mutant mercenary Wade Wilson (A.K.A. Deadpool) (Ryan Reynolds), brings together a team of fellow mutant rogues to protect a young boy of supernatural abilities from the brutal, time-traveling mutant, Cable (Josh Brolin) (IMDB).
The first verion of this film is without a doubt a rated “R” film because it is crass, lewd, and downright nasty at times. They decided, based on public demand, to make a PG-13 version of the same film. Someone came up with a genius idea of using a theme from the Princess Bride (1987) film with Fred Savage playing the grandson who Peter Falk, the grandfather, reads the story to in his childhood bedroom while he recovers from sickness. The big change here is that Deadpool is reading the story to the grown up Savage, which is hilarious. The same rule still applies here, if you have not seen most of the superhero films in the last several years you will not get all of the jokes. Almost all of the cussing is gone, bleeped out or toned down and it is still funny. This film still has an enormous amount of well-written comedy and character development that, like before, succeeds in endearing Deadpool to the viewers. The special computer generated effects are still fantastic and even more are used in this version to cover up some of the not so PG-13 scenes.
All of the characters in the original film are back with a few notable additions of Cable (Brolin) and Domino (Zaxie Beetz). Both of these characters add to the depth of this film. I know, more superhero movie characters but it works here. I absolutely love this film and have not been so genuinely an entertaining and funny film in a long time. For the superhero aficionados out there this film is a fun ride and needs to be seen.
