Review: REVOLT

Rating: 3.5 (Out of 5 Reels)

The story of humankind’s last stand against a cataclysmic alien invasion. In the war-ravaged African countryside, a U.S. soldier, Bo (Lee Pace) and a French foreign aid worker, Nadia (Berenice Marlohe) team up to survive the alien onslaught (IMDB).

This film drops you down in the middle of a fight against invading aliens in Africa. You see some explosions, people are destroyed and a few soldiers trying to fight back. Suddenly, Bo wakes after being hit by an explosion. He cannot remember who he is or what is going on around him. He spends the remainder of the film staying alive while trying to figure out how to destroy the invading aliens.

We do not see much of the aliens and there is no background given. We don’t know why they are trying to conquer the human race. They just apparently appear and start killing and gathering up humans.  We follow along as Bo tries to remember who he is and how to stop the alien invasion.

This film is entertaining as alien invasion films go but it leaves a few unanswered questions. For the most part, Bo’s and his newly found friend, Nadia are well written characters because we get to know them and their backgrounds. Pace and Marlohe do an excellent job portraying these characters. If you are a science fiction junkie like me most will enjoy this film. It is worth a look but definitely not worth paying full price to see, catch a matinee if it playing at a theater nearby.  Revolt is currently available for rental on DIRECTV and opens on November 17 in select theaters (not in Austin).
