Review: SEVENTH SON

By Renee’ Collins

Rating: 2 (Out of 5 Reels)

Young Thomas (Ben Barnes) is apprenticed to the local Spook (Jeff Bridges) to learn to fight evil spirits. His first great challenge comes when the powerful Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore) escapes her confinement while the Spook is away (IMDB).

Unfortunately, most will go into this film expecting the same old story of the knowledgeable master finding an apprentice to teach and ultimately take his place.  Well, that is exactly what this film is the same old story with different characters.  Although visually this film is well made the acting is mediocre and there is nothing new to see here.  It would be refreshing for Bridges to deviate from using the same odd accent while portraying the same character over and over again.

Millions will be made by this film because the younger crowds will most likely love it.  However, the slightly older crowd would do well avoiding it all together but if it is necessary definitely wait for a dollar rental or worst yet a matinee.
