Review: SLOW WEST

Slow West‘ follows a 16-year-old boy, Jay Cavendish (Kodi Smit-McPhee) on a journey across 19th Century frontier America in search of the woman he loves Rose Ross (Caren Pistoris), while accompanied by mysterious traveler Silas (Michael Fassbender)(IMDB).

The comedic aspect of this film plus the fact that Michael Fassbender portrayed one of the leading roles, he is also a producer, drew me to this film.  Jay falls head over heels in love and stops at nothing to find Rose in American where unbeknownst to him there is a bounty out for her as well as her father.  The big problem is that he is essentially helpless while travelling across 19th century frontier America.  Silas crosses paths with Jay and decided to offer his services to help him get to his beloved in one piece.

This film has the right combination of seriousness and comedy which makes it a delight to watch.  It is easy to empathize with Jay and his quest to get to his true love.  Although rough and violent at times which is expected due to their locale and timeframe this film has is a simple human story and is entertaining along the way.
