A desk-bound CIA analyst, Susan Cooper (Melissa McCarthy) volunteers to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent diabolical global disaster (IMDB).
To say this film is over the top and ridiculous at times is an understatement. The difference here is that there is an actual plot and for the most part it is smartly written. Some avoid the supposed stupid funny films but this one is so much better than the usual that most will enjoy it immensely. Having never seen any of McCarthy’s previous films this one is a good start because it delivers. McCarthy is fortunate to have found a niche for herself as the funny non –stereotypical action hero.
Bradley Fine (Jude Law) and Rick Ford (Jason Statham) portray the usual debonair Bondesque super spies out to save the world from a nuclear bomb threat. Turns out they might not be what they seem and it is extremely funny to watch.
The special effects are over the top here just as they are in a Bond film and that is the point. This film pokes fun at what is usually expected in this genre of film. The usual spy film fodder is turned on its head and it is extremely funny with McCarthy at the helm. Having not laughed this much during a film in recent memory this film is a must see for those who enjoy smartly done parodies.
