Review: TERMINATOR GENISYS

John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in time to protect Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), but when he arrives in 1984, nothing is as he expected it to be (IMDB).

Sure, the last two installments of this franchise were getting a bit repetitive but what are cool about them are the special effects.  Director Alan Taylor who is no stranger to blockbuster film making because he also directed Thor: The Dark World brings a new vision to this story.  Writers Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier add more character depth this time around as well as slightly modifying the overall storyline that we all know having seen previous installments.

The actors selected to portray characters from the previous films like Clarke, Courtney, Clarke and believe it or not Arnold Schwarzenegger adds to the overall edginess of this latest installment.  The visual effects are spectacular as usual but they are not used ad nausea here and that is refreshing.  We know what happens when robots fight and long winded fight scenes are no longer needed which this film critic appreciated immensely.

Most, not unlike me, will be pleasantly surprised at how good this film is and it is worth seeing on the big screen although, as usual, I would recommend saving a few dollars and going to a matinee.
