Review: THEIR FINEST

A British film crew attempts to boost morale during World War II by making a propaganda film after the Blitzkrieg (IMDB).

Imagine what it is like to live in a place that is bombed daily and running into a bomb shelter or the tube in London is part of everyday life. This film does an excellent job of immersing the viewer into not only life during World War II but gut wrenching personal realities that go along with it. The amazing thing about this film is the outstanding writing that provides a nuanced mix between the macabre along with a comedic element.

Although the main actors, Gemma Arterton as Catrin Cole and Sam Claflin as Tom Buckley are fantastic in their roles, Bill Nighy completely steals the show in his scenes portraying Ambrose Hilliard. The writing and their acting makes it near impossible to feel for these characters and their plight.

It is rare to see such a nuanced and wonderfully acted film. This film is highly recommended and should not be missed.
