Review: UPGRADE

Set in the near-future, technology controls nearly all aspects of life. But when Grey (Logan Marshall-Green), a self-identified technophobe, has his world turned upside down, his only hope for revenge is an experimental computer chip implant called Stem (IMDB).

This film is an absolutely fantastic ride from beginning to end but be warned it is a bit gory at times. I have not seen such a fantastically witty, well written and acted film in a while. Marshall-Green is the perfect choice for his role as Grey, who is a man that just wants to live a simpler life. Unfortunately, living that life brings him into contact with people who want something from him. Unwittingly, Grey becomes a quadriplegic who blindly agrees to get a surgical implant called Stem because he wants to walk again which is something anyone of us would probably do if in his position.

The film is exceedingly well made and they have one cool camera shot effect that brings an unexpected edge. Fortunately, they don’t over use this effect so most will not mind the effect. I love the scene (it is in the trailer) where Stem asks if he can take over his body to fight the man trying to kill him. At one-point Grey says, “stay down man”, awesome!

I cannot recommend this film enough if you are a fan of this genre. It is definitely worth paying for a ticket and I look forward to more work from this team in the future.
