SXSW Film 2016 Review: THE PHOENIX INCIDENT

Rating: 3.5 (Out of 5 Reels)

Blurring the line between fiction and reality, the fact-based, sci-fi thriller revolves around a military conspiracy and the controversial missing person’s case surrounding the infamous Phoenix Lights (IMDB).

From the beginning this film is put together like a documentary but is intertwined between fact and fiction. Family members are interviewed and become emotional when talking about the four missing and presumed dead loved ones.  One guy in the group was a budding film maker and had taped a video camera to his helmet.  Supposedly, that footage was found because we begin to follow the four men ride four wheelers out into the desert and the events leading up to their disappearance.  Another element that adds to the mystique of this film is the interview with military personnel talking about the events of the day as well.

This film is interesting because of the manner in which it is put together. The beginning feels like a documentary that quickly turns into a science fiction thriller while we watch what supposedly happened to the group of men.  This film is entertaining and I would recommend watching keeping in mind that it is extremely intense toward the end.
