The 9TH Indie Meme Film Festival Host to Notable Filmmakers Friday, April 19

Austin-based and female-founded Indie Meme hosts its 9th annual Indie Meme Film Festival (IMFF), bringing socially relevant cinema from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar, and more to the United States. IMFF is an international film festival here in Texas, with more than 30 international films from over 13 countries spanning more than 17 languages, solidifying Austin’s reputation as a hub for cultural exchange and film capital.

The festival’s highlight is the film ‘Footprints on Water’ screening on Friday evening, followed by a star-studded Red Carpet event. The event will be graced by the presence of veteran international documentarian and activist Anand Patwardhan, Adil Hussain (Life of Pi), and director Nathalia Syam. This special event will also be attended by several filmmakers, artists, sponsors, and board members. The red carpet kicks off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the screening of ‘Footprints on Water’ at 6:15 p.m.

The festival is currently taking place at the AFS Cinema, 6259 Middle Fiskville Rd, Austin, TX 78752, through Sunday, April 21.

IMFF is not just about films; it’s about storytelling. With a strong commitment to promoting Texas filmmakers sharing South Asian stories, the festival will feature a Local Shorts Showcase with engaging conversations with regional storytellers. The festival’s lineup includes international premiers, a variety of international shorts, and a selection of award-winning feature films, many of which are created by female and global filmmakers. The films explore a range of themes, from women’s rights and immigration to childhood trauma and family dynamics. They also delve into human-interest stories centered around consumerism, environmentalism, and global issues, making the festival a platform for thought-provoking discussions.
