Josephine (Ann Hathaway) and Penny (Rebel Wilson) are female scam artist, one low rent and the other high class, who team up to take down the men who have wronged them (IMDB).
This film is a remake of the 1988 film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine. Just about everything is the same overall. The tricks these women play on men are not the same as in the original but definitely on the same level.
Hathaway and Wilson do an admirable job portraying scam artist with the notable difference that Wilson’s character, Penny, is low rent in her efforts than Hathaway’s, Josephine. Hathaway’s attempt at a British accent falls short. However, the German one is much better. Fortunately, Wilson does not attempt an accent accept in jest which is a good thing I suppose.
There are a few new gaffs here but for the most part it is the same as the original except for the fact that women portray the main characters instead of men. Do not get me wrong, I like seeing women in leading roles but I recommend waiting to see this one on cable because there is nothing here to justify the expense.
