In case you missed the Fantastic Fest special event on September 22 at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, RAD! – 35TH Anniversary Restoration Screening with star Bill Allen in attendance and stunts by 512 Wheelies Crew, you are in luck! Fathom Events is offering the film on October 14th in Austin local theaters.
The Fantastic Fest event was quite a great introduction back to the in – theater festival with this superb restoration that takes the viewer back to the dates of BMX racing, the stars, the wardrobe and the vibe. It was fun to watch a film from the 1980s that was not a box office success, but once available for home viewing it gained followers to this day. Even though not a perfect film, it was perfect to be transported to a time that is important to those who followed or participated in the sport.
In celebration of its 35th anniversary, the 1986 BMX racing film, Rad returns to theaters for one-night-only. Featuring a new 35th anniversary restoration, the film stars Bill Allen (Cru Jones), Lori Loughlin (Christian Hollings), Talia Shire (Mrs. Jones), Jack Weston (Duke Best), and Ray Walston (Burton Timmer), along with 1984 Olympic gymnastics champion Bart Conner (Bart Taylor).
The film is directed by Hal Needham, written by Sam Bernard & Geoffrey Edwards and Executive Produced by Jack Schwartzman.
As part of the Rad 35th Anniversary event on October 14th, fans will see for the first time “A Rad Documentary – Inside the BMX Movie That Changed Everything.” Featuring never-before-seen interviews with the cast and crew and behind-the-scenes footage, the documentary gives audiences an inside look into the making of the film that helped catapult the extreme popularity of the 1980s BMX fad.
Fathom Events offers the film at the Regal Metropolitan Stadium 14, Cinemark Southpark Meadows and the Regal Arbor Great Hills 8. Details – https://www.fathomevents.com/events/Rad-35th-Anniversary
