The documentary Voices: The Danny Gans Story, about a Las Vegas entertainer, makes its Texas premiere at the Austin Film Festival.

The documentary Voices: The Danny Gans Story, written and directed by Andrew Davies, is screening at the Austin Film Festival in the Juried Festival Selection. The first screening is on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 1:30pm to 3:38pm at the Rollins Theatre at the Long Center.

About: VOICES follows filmmaker Andrew Davies Gans as he retraces the improbable rise of his father, Danny Gans — a complete unknown who became a Las Vegas legend. What begins as a son’s search for answers becomes a haunting meditation on the voices that shape us, and the choice to carry them, or give voice to something new.

This documentary explores Danny Gans’s reign as Las Vegas’s most popular entertainer, highlighting his sold-out shows as a singer, comedian, and impressionist, culminating in his death at the height of his career. Davies Gans, quoted in the press materials, shares: “Learning about those challenges that he faces with his health was really difficult. As a director, as a filmmaker, I have a responsibility to really tell the truth and deliver the story honestly and let the audience make up their mind about my dad and his choices and his life and his legacy.” The film sensitively navigates his public persona and private struggles.

The documentary is narrated by son/filmmaker Andrew Davies Gans. The film includes archival footage, backstage clips, home movies, and intimate interviews. The archival footage shows a man who entertained audiences with his vocal impressions and abilities.

Among the interviews that the filmmaker obtained and included in the film are those with several other entertainers who express their admiration and appreciation of his father’s talent.

There is a description of the film on the festival’s website that ends with the following sentence. “It’s a story about the echoes of a voice that continues to inspire, reverberating through the life of the son he left behind.”

For those who missed the live experience, you can enjoy his performance now, thanks to Andrew. The second screening is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 3:45 pm at Galaxy Theater 6.
