Cine Las Americas 17: LA CASA DEL RITMO, A FILM ABOUT LOS AMIGOS INVISIBLES (THE HOUSE OF RHYTHM)

By Mark Saldana

Rating: 3.5 (Out of 4 Stars)

Prior to watching this film, I had never heard of Los Amigos Invisibles, and now, after having enjoyed this documentary/concert film,  I want to seek out their discography. With infectious, danceable grooves, skillful musicianship, and often amusing lyrics, this disco/funk group from Caracas, Venezuela have quite a following worldwide and have even caught the attention of David Byrne of the Talking Heads. This film by Javier Andrade offers a candid behind the scenes look at the talented musicians/performers of Los Amigos Invisibles and intercuts their anecdotes with a fiery live performance shot at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.

One does not have to be a fan of Los Amigos Invisibles to enjoy this interesting documentary which also includes an excellent live performance by the group.  People who enjoy energetic and fun danceable music will certainly enjoy this introduction to the band, and will definitely be converted into fans as I was. The stories behind the band and their songs, and the performances of these songs speak for themselves and make for an exciting introduction to Los Amigos Invisibles. For those who are already fans of the group, this will make for a joyful celebration of what they already know.  This band can really jam and get their audiences moving on their feet.
