The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards were held last Sunday, January 10 with the typically acid-tongued Ricky Gervais hosting and throwing some of his hardest jabs at the attendees, nominees, the Hollywood Foreign Press, and the entertainment industry as a whole. Though, I find his shock and awe style of hosting entertaining and jaw-dropping, I actually prefer the style of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler who hosted the last two years. Fey and Poehler also have a bitingly sarcastic style, but they do like to mix it up with playful antics and usually offer more variety in their delivery of comedy.
As for the results of the awards, The Revenant surprised some critics and movie fans and managed to score the big wins of the night. Where as Mr. Robot and Mozart in the Jungle both dominated in the television categories. Usually, I pick predictions along with my personal picks, but that didn’t happen this year. Call it laziness or whatever, but as I watched the show I went through this process rather half-assed. Anyway, I too was among the surprised and slightly disappointed with some of the results, but to be fair, 2015 was an awesome year for film. Even though most of my picks didn’t get selected, I still feel that most of the winners were worthy of the awards.
