Entertainment News: The Latino Comics Expo to be held in Brownsville with Featured Artists and Short Film Festival

The Latino Comics Expo is the nation’s first convention dedicated to highlighting the work of comic book creators, illustrators & others whose work reflects the influence and celebration of Latino culture and it is to held in Brownsville, Texas.

The Latino Comics Expo Brownsville will take place February 3rd and 4th at the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art. It will feature panels with nationally acclaimed cartoonists, a short film festival, workshops, an artist alley, museum exhibits and a cosplay contest/after party.

Special guests include: Renee Victor (“Coco”), Gilbert Hernandez (“Love and Rockets”), Hector Cantu (“Baldo”), Lalo Alcaraz (“Coco,” La Cucaracha), Javier Hernandez (Latino Comics Expo), Suzy Gonzalez (Yes, Ma’am, San Antonio Zine Fest), among others.

Another event is offered the day before the Latino Comics Expo Brownsville and it is a free event. The Expo is partnering with the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art to present the Latino Comics Expo Short Film Awards on Friday, February 2nd at 7pm -11pm.

The Short Film Festival is held to encourage and honor emerging Latino filmmakers, as well as support sci-fi, fantasy, horror, and animated films that have Latino themes. The films include documentaries about Latino comics, graphic novels, artists, lucha libre, filmmakers, and other subjects related to the Expo. The filmmakers whose work exemplifies originality, diversity, and creativity will be honored.

Films will all be screened and a Q & A will be held with the filmmaker immediately after the screening of each film. One film will be presented with the Grand Jury Award. The Audience Award for Best Film will be announced on February 3rd at the Expo.
