FANTASTIC FEST’S GENRE FILM MARKET ANNOUNCES COLLABORATION WITH NORDIC GENRE INVASION, SPECTREVISION SECRET SCREENING, AND MUCH MORE

Austin, TX – September 13, 2016 – Fantastic Fest is proud to announce the final wave of programing for the 2016 edition of Fantastic Market, the festival’s industry program which runs September 22 – 25, 2016. Fantastic Fest takes place September 22 – September 29, 2016 at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar in Austin, TX.
This year, Fantastic Market is teaming up with the Nordic Genre Invasion-a marketing, distribution and collaboration platform for Nordic genre film producers-to bring a series of pitches, shorts, works in progress and panels to its program. This new programming features a wide range of talent, including people involved in films such as THE LOOK OF SILENCE, THE RAT KING and MYSTERY OF THE WOLF.
Regarding the Fantastic Market collaboration, Market Director Rodney Perkins says, “Nordic Genre Invasion is a perfect collaborator in our new international expansion efforts. They represent a number of high quality genre films with strong crossover potential in English-speaking territories.” Mikko Aromaa, Chairman of the Board for the Nordic Genre Invasion, says, “The discussions on the shape and form of our collaboration went on for well over 12 months, and I’m confident that the conclusion we reached is ideal for this pilot year. Nordic Genre Invasion content isn’t the only new addition to the 2016 Fantastic Market program. The market will also present a number of exciting film screenings. On Saturday, September 24th, SpectreVision will host a “secret screening” for Fantastic Market attendees. Every horror fan has his or her “gateway” film; that first traumatic yet thrillingly ghoulish cinematic experience that shatters our innocence and awakens a taste for all things macabre. Founding member of the genre-producing SpectreVision, Elijah Wood, will reveal his most personal childhood haunt with this rare screening.
Finally, on Friday, September 23rd, Fantastic Market will host a new work-in-progress as well as a shorts program called “Shorts to Features.” This year’s featured work-in-progress is Jussi Hiltunen’s LAW OF THE LAND. The “Shorts to Features” program highlights outstanding shorts that will be expanded into the feature-length films. These short selections include J. Xavier Velasco’s ZERCH, Emil Sallinen’s MIGHT, L. Gustavo Cooper’s THE HOME and Christer “CHRZU” Lindström’s NIGHTSATAN AND THE LOOPS OF DOOM. These filmmakers will also participate in the market’s live pitching sessions on Saturday, September 24th.
