News: 2014 Golden Globes Recap

Last night before a captive audience, the awards were distributed, awkward speeches were given, the comedic hosts quipped, and the champagne and other assorted libations flowed freely. All in all, the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards show seemed to go fairly well in spite of the tongue tied winners, a teleprompter issue, and a pre-show water leak on the red carpet outside the Beverly Hilton Hotel Ballroom.  Returning hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler elicited laughter from their audience, though I thought that their jokes and gags were noticeably funnier last year.  It almost seems like the powers that be had Fey and Poehler dial it down a few notches. I actually noticed this trend in the several years that the more controversial and caustic Ricky Gervais handled the hosting duties.

Regardless of the issues here and there, Fey and Poehler kept the show flowing smoothly and on track. As for my picks and predictions, I didn’t fair so well this year. I guess I underestimated some of the nominees who ended up taking home trophies. The results of Globes will definitely influence my predictions for the Oscars, but of course, I will have to wait and see who the nominees are. This announcement will come this Thursday, January 16. For those who missed the broadcast, here are the nominees and winners in the movie categories, along with my picks and predictions.
