On February 20th of this year, the Disney inspirational sports drama, McFarland, USA, hit theaters nationwide and was well received by many families. It remained in theaters for several months and in fact, is available in two theaters in the Austin area (both north) as of this date. The film is now available for purchase on different platforms: Blu-ray Combo Pack (BD + Digital HD), Disney Movies Anywhere, DVD, Digital HD/SD and On-Demand.
Directed by Niki Caro (Whale Rider) and based on a true story, Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner) accepts a job at a predominantly Latino high school after he has had some issues at a prior coaching job. He moves his family to this small town in California and what appears at first to be the very last place they want to be, is the one they won’t leave.
Coach White tries to do what he has done before, but soon finds this is something entirely different and decides to start a track team where one has not been established before. The spark is the talent he sees right in front of him – students with an exceptional running ability – and so much more. They are already a team as they work with their families, commit to each other and work from sun up to sun down. All that is needed to succeed in a world that did not see how they could.
Aside from Costner in the lead, other cast members include Maria Bello, Valente Rodriguez, Diana Maria Riva, Johnny Ortiz, Carlos Pratts, Morgan Saylor, Martha Higareda, Michael Aguero, Sergio Avelar, Hector Duran, Rafael Martinez, Ramiro Rodriguez, Danny Mora, Vanessa Martinez, Chris Ellis and many more.
The Blu-Ray, Disney Movies Anywhere and Digital HD/SD* has bonus features, including McFarland Reflections, the Juntos Music Video by Juanes, Inspiring McFarland, plus deleted and extended scenes. The film is rated PG and is 129 minutes long. It is in English and has English and Spanish subtitles.
