In 1942, an intelligence officer (Brad Pitt) in North Africa encounters a female French Resistance fighter (Marion Cotillard) on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. When they reunite in London, their relationship is tested by the pressures of war (IMDB).
Director Robert Zemeckis with the help of writer Steven Knight’s depth in intricate writing of the main characters have managed to create an exciting and suspenseful film. Max Vatan (Pitt) and Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) meet while undercover posing as a married couple whose mission is to assassinate a Nazi German official in Morocco. After their initial mission they fall madly in love, marry and have a child but their seemingly happy ending comes quickly into contention.
Zemekis has a knack for developing thoughtful characters. One only has to remember a film called Forrest Gump and they are reminded of Tom Hanks phenomenal portrayal as Gump. The main characters here are also deep and thoughtful which makes the audience care about them and their plight. This film is very well made and acted and is definitely worth a look over this holiday season. Although, a matinee will ease the pocket book a bit.
