Review: ARRIVAL

Rating: 3.5 (Out of 5 Reels)

A linguist (Amy Adams) is recruited by the military to assist in translating alien communications (IMDB).

Being a science fiction junkie is definitely a plus while watching this film but it also is for the everyday person due to the topic. Imagine what would or will happen once aliens finally do come to Earth? Most films depict the human race trying to destroy the aliens because we don’t understand them and their intent. Wanting to protect our own is one thing but not having an open mind and patience can also be detrimental to the human race. Why do we assume the worst scenario?

Two scientists, Dr. Louise Banks (Adams) and Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) attempt to communicate with an alien race ultimately to determine their intent on coming to Earth. These actors are great in these roles because they convey the importance of their goal. It becomes intense because if they fail it could have tragic consequences.

Although this film is extremely well written, visually stunning, and acted, and by the way the music is awesome as well, it becomes a bit preachy in the end and is too long. This film is thought provoking which is refreshing because most of what Hollywood produces is definitely not.
