Review: BABY DRIVER

By Renee’ Collins

Rating: 5 (Out of 5 Reels)

After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver (Ansel Elgort) finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail (IMDB).

This film is one of the best I have seen this year. The writing, acting and cinematography are excellent and I realized it is because Edgar Wright was at the helm. Noted works of his are Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz made with recurrent collaborators Simon Pegg, Nira Park and Nick Frost, which I love because they are fun, witty and extremely well made films.

The depth of the characters, the well thought out action sequences and the witty humor is what makes this film fantastic. Sure, this plotline is old but Wright’s approach to it makes it refreshing in a way and holds your attention all the way to the end. I found myself wondering how this film was going to end because I had no idea, which is rare because most films are becoming predictable. I cannot recommend this film enough. It is a must see if you are an Wright fan.
